Service provides compensation settlements to Status Indian and Inuit individuals who were placed in permanent care settings during the Sixties Scoop.

Services offers:

  • compensation to Status Indian and Inuit peoples who were adopted by non-Indigenous families, became Crown wards or who were placed in permanent care settings during the Sixties Scoop
  • eligible class members will receive an estimated $25,000 in compensation for harm suffered as a result of their experiences in the Sixties Scoop
  • the deadline for applications expired in December 2019
  • the Government of Canada will fund legal counsel for eligible class members
  • interim payments issued to eligible class members

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • registered Indians (as defined in the Indian Act) and Inuit as well as people eligible to be registered Indians; and
  • were removed from their homes in Canada between January 1, 1951, and December 31, 1991, and placed in the care of non-Indigenous foster or adoptive parents
