Description
Licenses and monitors daycare centres, out-of-school care centres, and preschool programs.

Service offers:

  • licensing and monitoring of childcare centres and programs that provide care for 7 or more children to ensure that they are following the requirements laid out in the Early Learning and Child Care Act and Early Learning and Child Care Regulations
  • program assessment and consultation to ensure that children's health, safety, and development needs are being met

Includes monitoring of:

  • number of staff
  • staff qualifications
  • programs and activities
  • physical environment
  • safety and administration
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to providers of:
  • daycare
  • out-of-school care
  • preschool
  • innovative childcare
  • group family child care
Does not include:
  • an educational program provided under the School Act
  • a day camp, vacation camp, or other recreation program that operates for less than 12 consecutive weeks
  • supervision of children at a recreational facility, retail centre, or other commercial establishment where parents of the children remain on the premises
  • private childcare in a private home for 6 children or less, not including the caregivers' own children
