- Description
- A group of Head and Neck and Esophageal cancer survivors (and/or their care partners) who are recovering from treatment and looking to connect with others who are facing similar challenges. The goal is to laugh, to cry and to support each other through treatment and recovery as well as share resources available.
This is a support group rather than a therapy group. The intent is for survivors to come together and share the feelings, knowledge and experiences associated with their journey. Facilitated by registered social workers, the group may include such topics as:
- coping with ongoing medical concerns
- recovering from emotional as well as physical trauma
- coping with dietary challenges at home and in public, whether it is tube-feeding or other intake issues
- family considerations
- dealing with the stigma of having a changed appearance
- the impact of treatment on one's life
- finding hope
