Description
Helps Albertans with a long-term disability or chronic or terminal illness to pay for basic medical equipment and supplies.

Service offers:

  • funding for basic medical equipment and supplies to help Albertans with a long-term disability, chronic illness, or terminal illness stay independent in their communities
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • Alberta residents
  • with a valid Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan card
  • who require assistance because of a long-term disability, chronic illness, or terminal illness (long-term and chronic are defined as being 6 months or longer)
Clients may not be eligible if they are eligible to receive comparable benefits from another source, including:
  • a private insurance plan
  • Veterans Affairs (veterans who need help because of a medical condition from active duty)
  • Workers' Compensation Board
  • Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Directorate, First Nations and Inuit Branch, Health Canada
If a benefit is not available through NIHB, and if clients are eligible for Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL), then AADL benefits can be accessed.
Application Process
Service Access: Professional Referral Required, To access service:
  • clinical assessment by a health care professional is required to determine basic medical needs and eligibility

Medical equipment and supplies must be purchased from approved vendors after client is assessed and authorized to receive Alberta Aids to Daily Living benefits to be eligible for reimbursement.

For those benefits that have a cost-share amount that is paid by clients, clients pay 25 per cent of the cost of program benefits up to a maximum of $500.00 per family per benefit year.




Fee Reduction: Yes,

Albertans with low income and people receiving income assistance do not pay the cost-sharing portion.
