Rent Assistance Benefit

Service provides:

• a benefit paid directly to subsidy recipients to help make their rent with a private landlord more affordable

The Rent Assistance Benefit (RAB) is a provincial program designed for households in core housing need who have low incomes and ongoing need. Heartland Housing Foundation is the local delivery agent (Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona County) for the program and is not the landlord in this program.

• meet the Social Housing Accommodation Regulation criteria
• are in core housing need
• have a total asset value of $25,000 or less
• are Canadian citizens, permanent residents (excluding those under a private sponsorship arrangement), convention refugees, or individuals who have applied for refugee/immigration status and private sponsorship has broken down
• and live in eligible housing - a self-contained, rented home with its own kitchen/bathroom and is not shared with the landlord

• a basement suite or secondary suite that has been approved by the municipality
• co-operatives
• mobile homes (where tenants also rent the pad)
• detached houses, townhouse, duplex, triplex, apartments, or condos
• with a written co-operative or tenancy agreement
