Provides intake, assessment, and support for newcomer families who would like to attend Edmonton Catholic Schools.

Service offers:

  • assistance to newcomer families in completing school registration forms and collecting documentation required by Alberta Education and Edmonton Catholic Schools


  • information about Edmonton Catholic Schools, the City of Edmonton and the Province of Alberta, and community resources
  • assessment of student's English language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening to complete the Alberta Education English as Second Language (ESL) Proficiency Benchmarks
  • continuing support to the student and family

Key Provider: intercultural liaisons, English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers, community engagement co-ordinators

  • school-age children (kindergarten through to grade 12) whose parents are newly arrived and lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent or temporary residence
