Description
Offers the ability for underemployed youth with autism to gain skills to ready them for employment in the digital economy.

Service provides:

  • a free program for underemployed autistic youth to gain skills to ready them for employment in the digital economy
  • a mixture of 4 months of in-class training (in-person and virtual) and 2 months of paid work-integrated learning using the additional supports of career coaches and innovative assistive technology
  • opportunities for employers to host a participant for internship (paid for by the program), to receive support when hosting, and to receive training and free consultative services whether or not they host a participant, to make their workplaces more inclusive to those with autism

Affiliation: Funded by Employment and Social Development Canada.

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • 18 to 30 years
  • who have been diagnosed or self-diagnosed as autistic
  • are a citizen, permanent resident, or refugee in Canada
  • can legally work in Canada
  • are confident using a personal computer (PC) and software programs
  • who will not be employed, in a transitional program, in training, or enrolled in school at the start of the program or for the duration of the program
  • and who can stick to routines, is ready to learn new skills, and motivated to find long-term employment in the digital economy

This is a national program offered in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan. Classes are offered in-person and virtually. Computer equipment and monitors can be made available to participants if required.
