Description
Provides people who feel at risk of domestic violence a way to get information about their partners so they can make informed choices about their safety and relationships.

Service provides:

  • information about a partner to people who feel at risk of domestic violence

People who may be at risk can find out if their current or former partner has a history of:

  • domestic violence
  • stalking or harassment
  • breaches of no contact orders
  • sexual violence
  • other related acts (including, but not limited to, physical violence towards people outside of their intimate partner relationships)

Third party applicants who do not have legal authority over a person at risk must have consent from the person at risk to submit the application. When the Government of Alberta receive the application they will contact the person at risk to confirm they gave consent.

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • residents of Alberta
  • in, or previously in, an intimate partner relationship with the person of disclosure
  • who have met the person of disclosure in person  
  • who are concerned that the person of disclosure might cause them emotional or physical harm in the future (the reasons for concern must be detailed on the application)
  • and who will talk to and meet with police to receive the disclosure information
For the purposes of this act, an intimate partner relationship is defined as a relationship between 2 people of any gender that is physically and / or emotionally close and includes current or former dating, common-law, and marriage relationships.

It takes about 30 minutes to fill out the application form. The person of disclosure will not be made aware of the application. Call 9-1-1 if you or someone you know is in immediate danger.

After application, it will take around 4 to 6 weeks to receive disclosure information.
