Description
The Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP) provides payment of eligible wages to workers whose employer has gone bankrupt or is in receivership.

Service offers:

  • payment of eligible wages to workers when their employer has gone bankrupt or is in receivership
  • the period during which wages are covered extends up to six months before the bankruptcy or receivership
  • The Wage Earner Protection Payment (WEPP) is considered a taxable benefit

Eligible wages include:

  • salaries
  • commissions
  • vacation
  • termination and severance pay
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to individuals:
  • legally authorized to work in Canada
  • whose employment has ended
  • whose employer has declared bankruptcy, is in receivership, or is undergoing insolvency proceedings
  • who are owed wages, vacation pay, termination pay, or severance pay by their former employer
Individuals not eligible for the Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP) include:
  • company officers or directors
  • those with a controlling interest in the business

 A valid Social Insurance Number is required to apply for the Wage Earner Protection Program online.
