Description
Provides a wage subsidy for internships for Indigenous Youth in the housing industry.

Service offers:

  • financial assistance (wage subsidy) to organizations and businesses in the housing sector to hire Indigenous youth for internship positions
  • eligible internship positions include housing administration, maintenance, construction, renovation, tenant relations, and trades apprenticeships
  • wage subsidies cover wages, vacation pay, employment insurance, pension plans, workers' compensation premiums, northern allowance, skill training activities, and some safety equipment costs
  • eligibility for financial assistance is subject to the nature of the request and is not guaranteed

Interns can be hired by:

  • Indigenous governments and affiliated organizations including Band and Tribal Councils and self-government entities
  • public or not-for-profit Indigenous organizations
  • for-profit Indigenous businesses
  • public, private or not-for-profit non-Indigenous employers seeking to employ Indigenous youth

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • Indigenous youth
  • 15 to 30 
Indigenous youth include First Nations (Status or Non-Status), Métis, and Inuit individuals.

Applicants must not be receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits or agree to terminate them before starting the internship.

Interns cannot work during the program.
