Accepts public concerns about property rights, raises awareness of recent property rights issues and concerns, and makes suggestions to Alberta?s legislators and government on how the issues and concerns can be addressed.

Service provides:

  • opportunities for people to voice concerns about property rights that are then documented and shared within government and with the province's lawmakers
  • annual reports with property rights observations and recommendations that are reviewed by government lawmakers who make decisions on what actions should be taken in government
  • information on the progress of the government's recommended actions based on the initial recommendations
  • presentations about the work of the Property Rights Advocate Office at events

Property rights issues may be related to:

  • land and house rights
  • abandoned or operating oil and gas infrastructure
  • neighbour-to-neighbour disputes
  • municipal planning and zoning decisions
  • mineral surface rights
  • grazing leases
  • environmental contamination
