Description
This program supports children requiring home non-invasive ventilation in Northern Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

The Stollery's Pediatric Non-invasive Ventilation (NIV) Program offers respiratory assessment and management of children who require home non-invasive ventilation (NIV). This program includes infants and children with a variety of sleep-related breathing disorders and respiratory insufficiency or failure who require NIV-CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and BPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure). NIV Outpatient Conics are inter-disciplinary and work closely with community-based partners to provide integrated services to children and families including:

  • telemedicine and virtual care options
  • respiratory assessment
  • access to the Stollery's Pediatric Sleep Laboratory for polysomnography studies
  • NIV equipment assessment
  • mask fitting and headgear adaptation services
  • education

Our program includes the following clinics:

  • pediatric Non-Invasive Ventilation Program
  • non-Invasive Ventilation Transition Clinic

Key Provider: doctors, nurse practitioners (NPs), registered respiratory therapists, registered sleep lab technicians

Service Access: Professional Referral Required, Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information. Patients are referred directly through the Stollery Sleep Medicine Program.
