OutLoud Foundation

OutLoud Groups

Description
Offers support services and groups to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning (LGBTQ) residents of St. Albert.

Service offers:

  • a safe, inclusive space for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning (LGBTQ) community to connect with each other and allies
  • 4 support groups
  • a dog tag presentation at every OutLoud Youth and OutLoud Junior meeting; after a youth has come to OutLoud six times, they receive a silver dog tag with the words I AM LOVED on one side and OutLoud on the other

Groups include:

  • OutLoud Youth - participants get to know each other through games and laughter; it is not a counselling session, although resources and referrals are provided
  • OutLoud Junior - created when younger children started to attend OutLoud Youth but had different needs and parental support; the intent is to become more comfortable with themselves and their peers through play-based activities
  • OutLoud Talks - created to discuss mature topics related to the queer community; this group discusses career-related issues, as well as relationship and mentor advice
  • PFLAG St. Albert - local chapter of PFLAG Canada, the national charitable organization founded by parents who wished to help themselves and their family members understand and accept their non-heterosexual children
