Therapeutic Cart Driving Program


Description
Offers cart driving as an accessible alternative to mounted equine therapy.

Service provides:

  • cart driving as an accessible alternative to mounted equine therapy
  • the opportunity to drive a horse or pony hitched to a wheeled cart around an arena, obstacle course, or out on a trail

Includes:

  • learning to work with and control a horse as the driver of a cart
  • opportunities to make new friends, gain a sense of independence, be out in the open air (weather permitting), and have fun
  • a range from relaxing rides around the indoor or outdoor cart trails to thrilling competitions run by Equine Canada
Key Provider: certified riding instructors, trained volunteers
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • 3 years and older
  • with a clinical diagnosis of a phsyical, cognitive, mental health, or behavioural disability by a medical professional
Application Process
Service Access: Registration Required, To access service:
  • a Physician Release Form and Rider Assessment are required prior to acceptance in program

$220.00 per 10 week session, which includes a 30 minute private lesson each week.

Membership Fee: Yes,

Therapeutic Rider Membership: $20.00 per calendar year or $10.00 per single session

Public Rider Membership: $45.00 per year or $20.00 per individual session
