Description
Provides financial and health benefits to eligible adult Albertans with a permanent disability that substantially limits their ability to earn a living.

Service provides:

  • monthly core, health, and personal benefits to assist eligible individuals with their living needs and with living as independently as possible

Core benefits include:

  • living allowance for individuals living in the community or a modified living allowance for individuals living in a facility
  • child benefit to assist with costs associated with raising dependent children

Health benefits include:

  • prescription drugs
  • essential diabetic supplies
  • optical services
  • dental services
  • emergency ambulance services
  • waiver of the co-payment fee for Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL)

Personal benefits include:

  • assistance with specific 1-time or ongoing expenses over and above the monthly living allowance or modified living allowance
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • residents of Alberta who are Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents and do not live in a correctional or mental health facility
  • 18 years and older and not eligible to receive an Old Age Security pension
  • with a disability that is likely to remain permanent and substantially limits the ability to earn a living and there is no training, rehabilitation, or medical treatment that will help to allow the person to work enough to earn a living
  • who meet the income and asset eligibility criteria

All applications will be assessed in the following order:
  • general eligibility
  • medical eligibility
  • financial eligibility
Applicants who do not meet general or medical eligibility requirements will be notified of the decision:
  • if an applicant is denied due to general eligibility, their application will not be assessed for medical or financial eligibility
  • if an applicant is denied due to medical eligibility, their application will not be assessed for financial eligibility
