Counselling Services


Description
Provides short-term counselling services that focus on supporting well-being and mental health for students.

Service offers:

  • short-term counselling for students
  • appointments done via remote telehealth (phone, video) during COVID-19

Addresses topics such as:

  • personal and social well-being and mental health
  • concerns that are adversely impacting a student's state of mind
  • emotional regulation
  • stress, anxiety, depression
  • psycho-educational workshops

Psychiatric services and crisis support advice and coaching are only available at the main campus. Crisis support advice and coaching for students, staff, and faculty available only at main campus.

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to students enrolled at:
  • Main campus - can access counselling at main campus
  • South campus - can access counselling at the main campus
  • Saint Jean campus - can access counselling at Saint Jean campus
  • Augustana campus - can access counselling service at Augustana campus
  • Calgary campus - can access counselling through the University of Calgary's Mental Health Service
  • Enterprise Square campus - can access counselling at the main campus if enrolled in English Second Language (ESL) classes 
University of Calgary students enrolled at Edmonton campus can access counselling at the University of Alberta main campus. 
Application Process

  • visit website to book a phone or video counselling appointment at Augustana Campus during COVID-19; scroll down to Personal Counselling and under the heading Appointments, click on the green box that states Book an appointment
  • or contact for more information
There are no drop-in appointments available during COVID-19. Bring oneCard identification. Provincial health care card or health insurance card required for psychiatric services. Psychiatric services only available at the main campus. Crisis support advice and coaching available only at main campus.Referral Process: No

Waiting Period: Yes,

There is a wait list for psychiatry services at the main campus. There may be a wait list for psychology services. Contact for details. 

For Augustana Campus, counselling appointments may be scheduled within the same week of inquiry, or may be up to a few weeks for a time to match the student's and the counsellor's schedule.

Fee: Yes,

No fee for psychology or counselling services. Psychiatry services are covered with valid Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP), University of Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (UAHIP), or out-of-province health care card.
