Reports as an independent officer to the Legislature under the Child and Youth Advocate Act.

Service provides:

representation of the rights, interests, and viewpoints of any child or youth receiving services under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act or the Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act, or youth involved with the Youth Justice System

Includes:

information and advice to government bodies
assistance to the child or youth to express their views or to speak on their behalf
legal assistance to children and youth receiving services under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act or the Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act
investigation of systemic issues arising from a serious injury to or death of a child who was receiving a designated service at the time of the injury or death, or up to 2 years preceding injury or death
public education
