An independent inquiry that examined and reported on the systemic causes behind the violence that Indigenous women and girls experience. The final report was published on June 3, 2019.

Service offers:

  • community visits and hearings heard from the people who have experienced violence firsthand
  • institutional hearings examined the systemic causes of institutionalized violence
  • expert panel hearings
  • stories were shared through any artistic expressions of choice
  • 1-844-413-6649, toll free 24/7 crisis support phone line for any persons requiring support
  • even though the inquiry's mandate ended in June 2019, longer-term aftercare services such as mental health counselling, emotional support, cultural supports and transportation are available through Indigenous Services Canada
  • Family Information Liaison Units (FILUs) provide specialized services to support families of missing and murdered all missing and murdered Indigenous people, including men and boys
