Description
Provides resettlement and integration services for refugees sponsored by the Government of Canada.

Service offers:

  • meeting point for refugees to be picked up at Calgary International Airport
  • transportation to pre arranged living arrangment
  • information and resources about life management skills through the Resettlement Assistance Program
  • assistance with adapting to a new country
  • information sessions on the Canadian health care system
  • alternate locations in cities to assist with resettlement issues
  • services for Afghan refugees offered include support obtaining initial documentation, such as Social Insurance Number and Alberta Health Care card. Support registering for school, tax benefits, and other necessary programs. In the first six weeks after arrival, CCIS will support clients in accessing basic needs such as finance, accomodations, and English as a Second Language classes. Case management available for highly barriered clients

Margaret Chisholm Resettlement Centre in Calgary has residence facilities and offers:

  • stay of up to 19 days for families to search for alternate living arrangements
  • meals, bedding, linens and household items
  • incidental allowance and resources for starting a life in Canada

  • refugees arriving in Canada under the Government Assisted Refugee (GAR) program
  • privately sponsored refugees receive limited services and cannot stay at, or receive an allowance, through the Margaret Chisholm Resettlement Centre
