Description
Provides support to Indigenous youth accused of a crime.

Service offers:

  • support to Indigenous youth accused of a crime within the Criminal Justice System

Includes:

  • acting as a "friend of the court" to provide information to the court on community resources available
  • providing explanations to the accused in plain language
  • translation services where possible
  • entering pleas
  • speaking to sentence and adjournment
  • emotional support

Out-of-court support includes:

  • support for youth accused of crimes and victims of crime
  • advocacy
  • preparing cases
  • information about legal rights and court procedures
  • assistance with documentation and applications

Affiliation: Contracted with Alberta Justice and cost-shared by Justice Canada.

  • 17 years and younger
  • who are accused of a crime or a victim of crime
