Description
Provides short-term child-minding for patients or their siblings for inpatient and outpatient families. Children are supervised in this safe and caring place while parents or guardians attend appointments or visit an inpatient.

Provides short term child-minding for newborns to early teens. This is not a DayCare setting, therefore time slots are short term. Activities include:

  • arts and crafts
  • books
  • toys and games

There is one childcare provider for every 4 children. Children younger than 2 and children that need extra care get one-on-one attention.

The longest a child can stay is 1.5 hours.

There are two EBY locations:

  • Alberta Children's Hospital
  • Child Development Centre

Eligibility
Yes, Children must be patients or siblings of a patient of the Alberta Children's Hospital, Alberta Children's Hospital clinics or Rotary Flames House (RFH). Parents / guardians must remain on site while their child is at EBY. The service is intended to allow parents / guardians to meet with a health care provider, attend an appointment on site, or have a visit with their child at bedside without needing to have other children present.
Application Process
Service Access: By Appointment, There are times when EBY is fully booked; therefore reservations are recommended. Drop ins are welcome, provided space and staffing are available. Safety is EBY's foremost consideration. Children must be free of the following symptoms: rash, cough, fever, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. To ensure space is available, it is recommended that parents call or email to pre-register their child. Children may be pre-registered up to two weeks in advance.
