Description
Equips newcomers of all educational backgrounds and levels of experience with employment-related skills and supports to access the Canadian labour market.

Service provides:

  • a series of career counselling sessions
  • opportunities to build skills and learn about the labour market by attending workshops, job fairs, events, and information sessions

Includes:

  • assistance with creating a realistic, strengths-based career plan
  • help with researching labour market and finding employment, education, or volunteer opportunities
  • support with creating targeted resumes and cover letters
  • coaching on interview techniques and job search strategies
  • help to understand hiring practices, Alberta employment customs and workplace responsibilities

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to newcomers who are willing to work and are:
  • permanent residents of Canada
  • Convention refugees
  • live-in caregivers
  • or protected persons as defined in Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Willing to work means that a client is willing to accept all types of opportunities that their abilities, skills, training, or experience enable them to do, and that they are willing to accept labour market conditions (for example, going rate of pay, hours of work).
