Alarm Bylaw Program

Edmonton Police Service

Description
Provides alarm system permits for residential and business alarm system owners.

Service offers:

  • alarm system permits for residential and business alarm system owners
  • partnerships with alarm system operators and alarm system providers to reduce the number of false alarms requiring police attendance

The City of Edmonton Alarm Systems Bylaw requires all residential and business alarm system owners to have a valid alarm system permit. The police will not respond to an alarm for which a valid permit does not exist, unless there is information to support that an emergency or criminal act is in progress or has occurred.

A violation ticket may be issued to the owner of a residence or commercial property who is operating an alarm system without a valid City of Edmonton alarm systems permit.

An alarm permit does not need to be renewed for as long as the permit holder is responsible for the alarm system registered to the permit location.
