Description
Provides students with an awareness and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) culture, history, and traditions through core and complementary classes.

Service offers:

  • programming that immerses students in a learning environment that honours Aboriginal culture, language, and traditions
  • programming for students to increase their knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and traditions, and develop language skills in Cree
  • partnerships with post-secondary institutions, community organizations, and businesses to help students transition into further academic studies, apprenticeships, or the workplace

Includes:

  • instruction on Cree as a second language and using Cree in various classes
  • cultural teachings, guidance, and ceremonies led by Aboriginal Elders
  • participation in Aboriginal events and celebrations
  • traditional Aboriginal games, dancing, music, and art
  • citizenship and leadership skills development
  • field trips to Aboriginal cultural sites
  • access to community services and Aboriginal supports for students and their families

Programs include:

  • amiskwaciy Academy
  • Awasis (Cree) at Prince Charles School

  • grades 7 to 12 for amiskwaciy Academy
  • and kindergarten to grade 6 for Awasis (Cree)
