Offers a life skills program for children and youth.

Service offers:

  • a multi-stage life skills program for children and youth

Includes:

  • Community Outreach and Living Skills - guides participants on how to make positive life choices, establish healthy self-esteem, and develop effective communication strategies, with topics such as problem solving, communication, and healthy relationships
  • Junior Leaders - opportunity for participants to learn to be leaders among their peers and within their communities, with topics such as public speaking, team building, and communication skills
  • Grade 7 Prep - supports children transitioning to grade 7 (Junior High), including discussions around expectations, help developing self-confidence, and relationship building
  • Junior High Program - supports participants in developing a sense of self-worth and belonging through peer-led groups, opportunities to plan and lead activities, healthy youth relationship curriculum, and recreational activities
  • Growing Leaders - opportunities for participants to hone their leaderships skills and gain volunteer experience by becoming mentors to the children in other programs
Eligibility
Yes, Junior Leaders targeted to:
  • grades 5 to 6
Grade 7 Prep targeted to:
  • grade 6
Junior High Program targeted to:
  • grades 7 to 9 who have been previously registered in one of the Elementary School Programs 
Growing Leaders targeted to:
  • grades 7 to 9
Community Outreach and Living Skills (COLS) program is open to children in the following participating schools: 
  • Abbott School
  • Bannerman School 
  • Beacon Heights School
  • Fraser School
  • Homesteader School
  • Kirkness School 
  • Highlands School
  • Ivor Dent School
  • Sifton School
  • St. Bernadette School
  • St. Bonaventure Elementary School
  • St. Jerome Catholic School
