Description
Provides financial assistance to eligible Albertans who do not have resources to meet their basic needs.

Service provides:

  • financial assistance for eligible Albertans

Benefits are provided in emergency situations that:

  • are beyond the client's control
  • present a severe health or safety risk
  • and cannot wait until the next payment date

Benefits related to the following can be assessed either through the 24 hour Income Support Contact Centre or a local Alberta Works office:

  • food
  • emergency accommodation
  • prescription medication
  • basic emergency dental
  • and transportation to safety

Benefits related to the following will be assessed only through a local Alberta Works office:

  • damage deposit
  • eviction
  • childcare
  • essential appliances and home repairs
  • utility arrears if utilities are about to be disconnected
  • and other goods / services as authorized by an Alberta Works site manager
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to Albertans who have an emergency that meets the following conditions:
  • the situation occurred due to unforeseeable circumstances beyond their control
  • the situation presents a severe health or safety risk
  • the situation cannot wait until the next benefit period, other resources cannot be accessed, and alternate arrangements cannot be made
Clients should contact their Income Support worker to find out whether they are eligible for these benefits.
