Offers safe, supportive transitional housing for youth experiencing complex barriers to housing.

Service offers:

  • safe, supportive transitional housing for youth experiencing complex barriers
  • accommodation and support services through basic care, crisis intervention, and connection to internal (relationship building, goal planning, transition planning, and life skills development) and external (health care, substance abuse / misuse programs, education / training opportunities, or connection to independent living placements) support services
  • 3 homes with a total of 15 beds in the communities of Parkdale / Cromdale, Lauderdale, and Kenilworth which can house up to 5 youth; each home has individual bedrooms for each youth, common spaces (bathroom, living room, and kitchen) and staff offices

Complex barriers may include:

  • substance use / misuse / addictions
  • legal
  • traumatic histories
  • mental health
  • poverty
  • homelessness
  • Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer / questioning, and any other gender or sexual nonconforming identities (2SLGBTQIA+)
  • newcomers to Canada and / or refugees
  • Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act (PSECA) concerns

Key Provider: transitional case co-odinators, transitional support co-orinators, transitional support workers, youth workers
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • 14 to 17 years
The youth served may or may not have Child and Family Services status. Able to serve pregnant but not parenting teens. All homes welcome all genders.
Application Process
Service Access: Application Required, To access service:
  • call referral line during operating hours to self refer (self-referrals preferred due to voluntary nature of program)
  • or professional referrals from Child and Family Services, Northern Alberta Child Intervention Services (NACIS), caseworkers, guardians, schools, and more also accepted
A thorough screening process is completed on all youth and referrals are reviewed to ensure that the safety and well-being of current residents is not jeopardized by the proposed placement, and that the new resident can be maintained safely with the current residents.
