Gang Action Unit

Calgary Police Service

Provides a resource for citizens to report suspected street-gang activity, obtain information on gangs and what CPS is doing in response, and for CPS to create programs to reduce gang activity.

Service offers:

  • a dedicated unit committed to working with the issue of violent street crimes involving gangs, including youth and adults
  • a strategy of education, prevention, disruption and investigation regarding gang activity
  • public awareness campaigns and open houses to provide information to the public
  • a place for the public to help by providing information and being willing to testify
  • participation in programs with other agencies to work with people affected by gangs
  • YARD (Youth At Risk Detail) referrals for identification of youth at risk of joining gangs and development of individualized support plans to decrease the likelihood of further gang involvement
  • GRIP (Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention) focuses on raising awareness, providing access to resources and cultivation tips about gang activity

Affiliation: YARD is operated jointly with CPS and Youth Probation, Community & Neighbourhood Services.
