Description
Promotes the prevention and reporting of abuse of adult clients who receive publicly funded care or support services.

Service offers:

  • promotion of prevention and response to reports of abuse of adult Albertans receiving care or support services from publicly funded service providers
  • publicly posted decision summaries on the Government of Alberta website (individually-identifiable health and other personal information are not included)

Service providers include:

  • hospitals
  • seniors' lodges
  • nursing homes
  • shelters
  • group homes
  • addictions and mental health treatment and rehabilitation centres
  • some settings funded by the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program
  • and other supportive living settings
Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • 18 years and older
  • who have experienced abuse receiving care or support services from publicly funded service providers
Application Process
Service Access: Telephone Information Line, To access service:
  • call to report abuse or concerns about the safety and security of a vulnerable adult
  • abuse may be reported in writing by completing an Abuse Report form found on website and sending it by mail, e-mail, or fax
  • if the client is or was detained under the Mental Health Act or if the client is or was subject to a Community Treatment Order at the time the alleged abuse occurred, report to the Mental Health Patient Advocate
  • decision summaries may be found on website
