Rent Assistance Benefit

Service offers:

• a rental subsidy for individuals and families with low income

Includes:

• a rental subsidy paid directly to the tenant for 12 months up to a maximum of $800.00 depending on the size of the unit
• rental subsidy paid directly to the tenant for a fixed amount for 12 months by electronic transfer
• subsidy is based on the difference between the tenant's qualified rent and 30 per cent of their income
• approved clients will pay 30 per cent towards their rent

• Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, refugees, independent landed immigrants, or government sponsored landed immigrants
• whose household assets and belongings are less than $25,000.00
• and whose household income does not exceed provincially set household income limits

There is a substantial waiting list, with priority given to individuals and families with the greatest need in accordance with the Social Housing Accommodation Regulation.

The benefit amount is based on the difference between the rental rate of the unit and 30 per cent of household income, up to the maximum rent assistance benefit amounts. Maximum rent assistance benefit amounts are based on household size.

Monthly subsidy of up to $500.00 to $800.00 dependent of household size.
