Red Deer County


Description
Provides fire protection, search and rescue, emergency management, and enforcement services.

Service offers:

  • emergency preparedness information
  • co-ordination and provision of fire, patrol, and emergency management services throughout the County

Fire services include:

  • approximately 60 volunteer firefighters located in 5 halls around the outskirts of the City of Red Deer
  • direct control of the Bowden Fire District to provide fire protection within the Town of Bowden
  • direct control of the Delburne Fire District to provide fire protection within the Village of Delburne
  • provision of fire services in other areas of the County by agreements with Elnora, Innisfail, and Sylvan Lake
  • fire related information resource documents

County Enforcement services include:

  • County Enforcement Officers who are mandated, through their appointment as Bylaw Officers and Community Peace Officers, to enforce County Bylaws and selected provincial statutes
  • enforcement priorities including protection of the County road infrastructure, safe movement of traffic throughout the County, and assisting the County Development department in the enforcement of the Land Use Bylaw

Emergency Management services include:

  • a team comprised of staff, contracted agencies, and Mutual Aid partners
  • an Emergency Co-ordination Centre (ECC) with interactive mapping, audio conferencing, and multiple display capabilities, to effectively manage emergency situations that may arise
  • risk assessment which provides data to enable County Council to set priorities to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from major incidents within the County
  • regional emergency plan with Delburne, Elnora, Bowden, Innisfail, Penhold, and Sylvan Lake

Technical Rescue Task Force includes:

  • technical rescue teams that intervene in particularly difficult or dangerous situations
  • intensively trained and taught team members that are able to operate in any environment where conventional rescue teams cannot intervene safely
  • specialties such as rope rescue, confined space, aquatic, livestock, and structural collapse rescues
  • missing person search for police forces of jurisdiction
  • medium Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) capabilities
