Description
A federal government program, which supports public health and health promotion for First Nations and Inuit peoples.

Provides public health and health promotion, which includes:

  • the Non-Insured Health Benefits program- which pays for dental, medical equipment and supplies, patient transportation, prescription medicine, vision fees, and other healthcare services and products not paid for by provincial or territorial health insurance plans, programs, or other forms of third party coverage
  • primary care services on reserves in remote, isolated areas where there are no provincial services available
  • funding of health centres, health stations, health offices, nursing stations, and treatment centres for the National Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program
  • access to healthcare services and other healthcare benefits for registered Indians or Inuit peoples
  • environmental health officers to keep water quality and resolve other environmental health issues
