Description
A short-term emergency shelter that provides a safe, supportive environment for women and their children who have left violent and abusive situations.

Service offers:

  • a 30-day emergency shelter that offers a secure and supportive environment for women and their children who have escaped from violent and abusive situations and require immediate housing

Facility includes:

  • 24 beds in 7 bedrooms (1 is wheelchair accessible)
  • communal kitchen
  • intake and counselling rooms
  • interfaith spiritual care room
  • multi-sensory room

A specialized children's program in the child support centre provides support such as:

  • modelling healthy relationships
  • teaching coping skills for managing anxiety
  • building self-esteem
  • child-centred play
  • healthy parent-child attachment

Programming and services include:

  • a welcome basket upon arrival that includes a set of toiletries, slippers, and a journal
  • basic clothing (pajamas, underwear, t-shirts, and leggings) on-site to get clients through the first few days
  • vouchers to shop for other items of clothing that may be required
  • morning meetings at the start of each day focus on gratitude, positive affirmations, setting intentions, and offering support to build community and trust
  • goal setting and safety - danger assessment tool, safety planning, resiliency mapping, and resident-focused goal setting
  • trauma-informed crisis support
  • community referrals and client advocacy in several different areas to support choice and collaboration
  • opportunities for empowerment include the Healthy Relationship Education group, Parenting Support group, and Healing Circles

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • women and children only, including those who identify as a woman, such as individuals who are two-spirit, nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, or agender
  • women with or without children 
  • women and children experiencing domestic violence
Children must be 18 years or younger. Spaces are inclusive of cisgender and transgender women.
