Description
A branch of Rehabilitation Medicine that focuses on helping children reach their maximum level of independence in their Activities of Daily Living from a physical, social, and educational perspective.

Services provided include:

  • assessment and intervention
  • education
  • development of therapeutic goals and customized treatment plans within a Family-Centered Care model

Examples of conditions and services include:

  • pre-op teaching
  • fabrication of splints and orthotics
  • post surgical patients
  • fractures
  • muscle and tendon repairs
  • nerve injuries
  • scar management
  • congenital anomalies
  • clubfoot
  • congenital dislocated hips
  • torticollis
  • developmental delay
  • ventilation headgear adaptation

Services are not provided to patients who are already in the care of an occupational therapist or are involved in an Occupational Therapy program, unless for the purpose of consultation or assistance with treatment strategies. Exclusion could include commuinity or school involvement.

Clinical support is provided to a large variety of pediatric medical and surgery clinics, including but not limited to: Liver Clinic, Headshape Clinic, Club Foot Clinic, Orthopaedic Clinic and Plastic Surgery Clinic.

Eligibility
Yes, Ages 0 to 17 years and not already in the care of an occupational therapist or involved in an occupational therapy program, unless for consultation or assistance with treatment strategies.
