- Description
- The Central Alberta Anticoagulation Clinic (CAAC) is staffed by Registered nurses and Pharmacists that provide initiation and ongoing management of anticoagulant therapies.
The CAAC manages patients at high thrombotic or bleeding risk, performing the following:
- individualized education
- coordination of applicable laboratory testing
- ongoing anticoagulant dosing decisions
At an appropriate time after admission to CAAC, all patients will be assessed for transfer of anticoagulant management to their primary care provider, with only those at high thrombotic / bleed risk or having ongoing anticoagulant control issues being kept within the CAAC.

- Yes, Patients will need a family doctor who is able and willing to take part in their care and management as well as to resume care once the patient is discharged from the clinic.
