Description
Offers a shared-ride service for people who are unable to use the regular public transit service with safety and dignity.

Service provides:

  • a shared-ride public transportation service that operates within the City of Lethbridge for people who are unable to use regular public transit; service is provided on an accessible door-to-door basis, providing a safe and secure trip from origin to destination

Lifemark Health is the City of Lethbridge Transit's chosen service provider for assessment and is responsible for:

  • receiving and reviewing all Access-A-Ride applications including the accompanying medical information from a physician, occupational therapist and / or physical therapist
  • booking a functional / cognitive assessment with a qualified occupational therapist and / or kinesilogist to assist in the decision making process
  • making a recommendation regarding eligibility to the City of Lethbridge Transit Access-A-Ride program

Assessment decisions by Lifemark Health include:

  • unconditional
  • conditional (state condition)
  • temporary (state duration)
  • in-eligible for Access-A-Ride

Access-A-Ride is not a direct ride service.

Eligibility
Yes, Service targeted to:
  • people who have a disability that prevents them from riding the conventional bus without the help of another person
  • who are permanent residents within the City of Lethbridge limits 
They do not take anyone under age of 6 or under 60 pounds with a car seat or booster seat, due to the Highway Traffic Act.
Application Process

  • a medical assessment must be completed by a physician, occupational therapist, or physical therapist
  • contact or visit website for more information
The application form must be filled out legibly, completed in full, and signed by a qualified health care practitioner. Once a decision is made, a letter will be mailed to the applicant. Once a decision is made, a letter will be mailed to the applicant. If approved, a registration number will be issued and included in the letter. If declined, the reasons outlining the decision will be provided in the letter.

Notification of eligibility status occurs within 10 to 15 business days following the completion of the assessment by Lifemark Health.

$3.00 one way. Will need correct change per trip as drivers do not have change to give out. There is no registration fee, but clients must meet the eligibility requirements and are responsible for any charges incurred at the doctor's office if they do charge a fee to fill out a registration form.

Hours of Operation for Access-A-Ride trips are Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 12:00 AM, Sunday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and statutory holidays from 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM with limited availability.
