Description
The Virtual Healing Connections Program is a post-surgical breast cancer group program for Alberta residents having surgery within the Edmonton Zone. The Virtual Healing Connections Program covers a wide variety of emotional, social, nutritional, and physical health topics.

Our virtual program provides a group setting where participants can learn about a wide variety of topics that will support individuals during their breast cancer journey. Our sessions are interactive and give participants the opportunity to ask questions of health care professionals.

Topics Include:

Nutrition (runs on Tuesdays)

  • healthy eating for healing after breast cancer surgery
  • effects of cancer treatment on nutrition
  • common cancer myths related to food choices

Physical Therapy (runs on Wednesdays)

  • how to progress your home exercises
  • a) level 1- stretches to get your movement back
  • b) level 2 -additional stretching exercises and information on strengthening
  • proper posture and how to do scar massage

Occupational Therapy

  • lymphedema management
  • cancer related fatigue
  • body image and sexual health
  • mental and emotional health

Sessions are one hour in length, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Participants:

  • can choose to register for one, two, three, or all four sessions
  • have four weeks to complete the session(s)
  • can register before surgery, but cannot start the program until one week after your surgery

Key Provider: dietitians, occupational therapists (OTs), physical therapists (PTs), volunteers
Eligibility
Yes, Open to Alberta residents having breast cancer surgery within the Edmonton Zone. You must physically be in the province when attending the Virtual Healing Connections Program.
