- Description
- The Vestibular Clinic provides a specialized consult to assess and manage clients with complex peripheral disorders (affecting the structures of the inner ear responsible for balance), and central vestibular disorders (affecting the central nervous system responsible for balance, spatial awareness that often affects coordination and eye movement).
This visit occurs once, following completion of Videonystagmography (VNG) testing which is a procedure used to evaluate the function of the vestibular system (involves the inner ear structures and their connections to the brain), at the Glenrose or elsewhere, and does not involve ongoing therapy.
The Vestibular Clinic helps people with complex inner ear and brain balance problems. Conditions they treat include:
- Meniere's Disease: Causes dizziness, hearing loss, ringing in ears, and ear fullness
- Unilateral / Bilateral Vestibular Weakness: Reduced balance function on one or both sides, causing dizziness and trouble with orientation
- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV): Brief dizziness from head movements due to crystals in the ear
- Central Vestibular Disorders: Brain issues causing dizziness and balance problems.
The clinic's goal is to assess thoroughly and create personalized plans to improve symptoms and life quality for patients with these tough balance issues.
