Description
START Psychiatry Day Hospital is a group therapy program for older adults with complex mental health issues.

The program includes:

  • Talking groups to learn coping skills to better manage depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss
  • Mental health assessment by a psychiatrist
  • Prescription and trial of mental health medications (where appropriate)

Clients will be seen in the Assessment Clinic to determine eligibility for the program. Eligible clients will attend the program twice a week for up to 16 weeks.


Key Provider: dietitians, occupational therapist (OTs), pharmacists, physical therapists (PTs), psychiatrists, recreational therapists, registered nurses (RNs), social workers
Eligibility
Yes, Clients must be older adults (65+ years of age) with complex psychiatric and psychosocial needs.
Application Process
Service Access: Professional Referral Required, Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information.
  • The GRH provides transportation to and from anywhere within the city limits of Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park.
  • Clients from nearby cities and towns may attend if they can arrange their own transportation.

Waiting Period: Yes,

Assessment Clinic: 2 - 4 weeks after referral has been received.

Day Hospital: 1 - 3 months after the Assessment Clinic appointment has been completed.
