- Description
- The Resonance Service provides specialized assessment and treatment for both pediatric and adult patients with resonance and voice disorders.
The program sees people who have:
- hypernasal speech with or without structural abnormalities of the hard or soft palates
- resonance problems as a result of a neurological issue
- had surgery involving the hard and / or soft palate
- possible complications following tonsillectomy; or adenoidectomy
- nasality related to a phonological or motor speech disorder
- hyponasal speech and / or nasal obstruction.
Clients may be assessed and treated by a speech-language pathologist and / or otolaryngologist with the assessment involving- taking a clinical / medical history
- perceptual and acoustic evaluation of resonance.
If a resonance disorder is found, the following may be recommended:
- visualization of the velopharyngeal mechanism by flexible nasendoscopy or videofluoroscopy
- therapy with a speech language pathologist
The program offers gender-affirming voice and communication training for individuals seeking to make their voice and / or other aspects of their communication congruent with their self-described gender identity and / or desires for gender expression.
