- The Driver Evaluation & Training Service (DETS) provides driving assessment, counselling, and training for young adults, adults and seniors who have a wide variety of disabilities or health conditions that may affect their ability to drive.
The Driver Evaluation & Training Service provides:
- Comprehensive driver evaluation to assess the capacity and ability for safe driving in clients with complex medical and / or functional conditions who cannot be safely assessed by typical driver evaluation services.
- Recommendations and on-road training with the use of adaptive techniques or equipment if / when appropriate i.e. adapted or custom-modified car, or wheelchair-accessible van.
- Referrals to specialized rehabilitation services to practice core skills that are required for safe driving.
Additional education for use of vehicle modifications and assistance in choosing adaptations for vehicles.

- 16 years of age and older (must have passed the knowledge test for learners), with a physical, cognitive, perceptual or visual impairment which could potentially impact driving
- must have an authorization letter / temporary licence from Driver Fitness and Monitoring (Requested by program staff)

There is a fee for:
- both the clinical ($134) and on-road ($160) portions of the assessment
- $75 fee per session for lessons if they are recommended
- $25 no show fee with notice under 24 hours
If adaptive aids are recommended, there are fees to purchase and install these items from a certified vendor of your choice.
